For what it was worth, Jim hadn't really been expecting his school break to go like this.

It had started with the traditional arrest for flying his surfer in a restricted zone, and this time around they'd gone and impounded his vehicle. Then there was the inevitable argument with his mom, and the usual sulking on the roof to follow.

And that was about the point where everything took a break from tradition. The ship crashing into the dock outside of the Benbow Inn had been completely unexpected, for example, as was the old, injured, wheezing Turtle who slumped out from it, ranting about a treasure and a cyborg. Jim had dragged him into the inn... and had watched him die. All for the sake of some... shiny round ball. Thing.

A shiny round ball thing that was apparently in high demand, because the next thing Jim knew, he was running up the stairs with gunfire burning holes in the Inn, dragging his mother along behind himself with Delbert taking up the rear. One well-timed leap from the window into Dr. Doppler's carriage below, and they were riding like mad away from the Benbow Inn as it burned to the ground behind them.

... From the look of things, home in flames, pirate attack, dead Turtle spacer and all, Jim wasn't going to be able to head back to Fandom in time for the fall semester.

It kind of figured. Something interesting happens in Jim's life, and it always ends with his mother crying.

[Establishy of yay explaining Jim's hiatus! Yeah, he's going to be handwavily going through his Treasure Planet canon over the semester and coming back in the spring, since life is about thirty shades of crazy over here right now. NFI for distance and all, but OOC is welcome.]
It was probably wasn't possible for Jim to holler much more loudly than he was as he cut through the sky, a bright orange glow from his solar surfer's rocket trailing behind him, a slightly less aggressive glow streaking across the sail as it caught the rays from Montressor's sun. His daylight would run out on him in a couple more hours, and then he'd have to either swap to his surfer's backup power source or else head back home, but for now? For now, that was the farthest thing from his mind.

What was on Jim's mind? )

[Establishy, NFI, and NFB for distance. So much of this was snagged and adapted from the first nine minutes of Treasure Planet it isn't even funny, but I'm shameless like that sometimes, and I'll insert some more alphabet soup in here to say that OOC comments are totally welcome!]
